Aguja Poincenot - West face

12. Tango Viejo

400m 6b A3

Erich and Stephan Gatt (Austria), 1-2/3/2010, to a shoulder partway up the west ridge.

Description. This route climbs a line on the west face of the first (lowest) shoulder/tower of the west ridge of Poincenot. The main corner system is quite beautiful, although the rock at times can be a bit gritty. Two existing routes climb right by this shoulder, the DNV variation and Southern Cross.

History. The first ascentionists retreated from the top of the shoulder and did not continue on. The route was climbed alpine style over two days. They christened the shoulder/tower “Aguja Mercedes Sosa”. It is possible that it had been climbed by a Polish expedition in 1986 (see DNV).

Approach. De Agostini to Niponinos to Polacos then up Innominata couloir.

Pro. ?

Descent. Via the same route.
